The reason for the insanely low price, is because when you buy the iPhone, you need to buy the plan, when can range from 2 grand, to several thousand dollars. Apple, will probably make it mandatory to sign for the plan when you buy the iPhone. By making money off of the expensive plan, they can reduce the price of the iPhone. Additionally, Apple has reduced the price of the iPhone in England by a large amount, so as a result, you can not buy a single iPhone in England as of May 7th, because they are all sold out. I highly suspect that Steve Jobs did this, to see the reaction to the market, and so far, it has been fabulous, so its only a matter of time until there is a price reduction in America. You can relate to this, when you see ads, which state you can have a free phone, as long as you purchase a plan from a select phone service company. I think this new iPhone to be launched in the summer will, to put it mildly, piss off iPhone owners, who recently bought the 16 GB model or within the last two months. This will be a revision for the iPhone, and since in the leaked memo which AT&T gave to all of its employee's, which stated 'all employee's should avoid vacations planned on or between the dates of June 15 and July 14', I think this will one iPhone to be worth waiting for.

I've got all of the money I need, and if the price is indeed @ 250 then I will have 400 dollars to spend on accessories and such, although there aren't many accessories which are necessary.

kp

Thats my opinion, whats yours? As I type this review, I am amazed how crystal clear my background desktop image is (the Japanese Garden), the snow is crystal clear, and the rocks seem un realishly real (is that even a proper word?). Anyway, I realize that you need to pay more for the Apple Display for the sleek design and the Apple Logo, but I think its worth it. Its just so uniform, slick, and organized. The touch button interface on the side of the ACD, is very simple, as it only contains three buttons, a brightness increase/decrease, and a power button. Oh, these buttons are programmable also. The responsive behavior of these buttons is impressive at the very least. When I touch the power button to turn off my monitor (as opposed to the default setting of turning your computer to sleep), the display turns off instantly. It was quite alarming at first, because I thought the display broke down, however when I turned it back on, every pixel was displaying each image in its glory. Not only this, but editing in Final Cut Pro, or any program is unreal. When I do video color grading in Color, its so crisp and clear. I'm speechless. Also I'm lucky, not a single pixel on my display is dead. I do wonder why the ACD is thick, I expected it to be thinner, considering it uses LCD technology. In any case, this display not only display's anything I throw at it gorgeously, but the display itself is gorgeous (maybe I used that word too many times, I'll stop). I could not wait for the new display's to be announced in WWDC 08 (if they will be announced then), because I need to work, and make a living. Describing how good this display is, in text does not do it justice. I will be posting a video review in one week.

From my experience so far, 9/10. Stay tuned for the next part of my review (video).

*Enjoying Planet Earth in HD*

kp

My display broke :(

My NEC display for my Mac Pro turned black one day, and refused to turn on. I was presented with a black screen. My display is now broken. The NEC was a great display, its lasted for 7 years, and was great. Also, I would like to know whether you would be interested in a video, about me showing you whats in my dock.
Don't forget to leave your youtube username after each comment!

A Neat Fact

If you type '&fmt=18' at the end of any Youtube vid, you can watch it in HD!
Cool huh?

Just out of curiosity...

I have noticed recently that some of my subscribers live outside of the US. Unlike any other laptop I have reviewed before, this laptop is the first in its class because its not for the general consumer or for the professionals (MacBook and MacBook Pro respectively). This review is designed to be comprehensive as well as informative, so lets start by reviewing the overall design of the MacBook Air (to be referred to as MBA later on in this review).

Looking at the MBA right now, I realize the thought and design Apple put into this product. The curved edges and the smooth design is like eye candy. The aluminum, from which the laptop’s body was carved from, glints in the sunlight shining on my desk. The laptop is so thin, I feel like eating it. Anyway, Apple’s legendary product design clearly shines in this product. I think we can all agree on one thing, the laptop is gorgeous.

Although the performance for this laptop is not as good as I had imagined, it performs in real life very well. When I fired up the machine along side my MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air took 7-10 seconds longer (obviously my MacBook Pro would be faster), and I was satisfied. The laptop performed well for the start up time, considering that the hard drive spins @ 4200 rpm whilst my MBP has a 5400 rpm drive. Its expected that the SSD in the higher end version of the MBA will speed up the boot time considerably. I did not buy this model however because not only is it ludicrously expensive, but I could get a PC laptop with a 128 SSD cheaper. Ordinary applications like Microsoft Word, iPhoto, iMovie launch in good time. Apparently the 4200 rpm drive doesn’t act as a bottle neck when I work. Obviously I don’t advise installing heavy duty apps on the MBA like Final Cut, because that is like installing The Adobe CS3 on an Asus EEE PC. You begin to experience the limitations of the processor (1.6 GHz) when you do video encoding. After installing Handbrake and MPEG Streamclip, I decided to to some basic video encoding. I took a 5-minute clip of Family Guy (Death is a Bitch), and encoded it using Handbrake using the preset PS3 encode. While this was encoding, the temperature in the MacBook Air reached to a crisp 160 F, and the exhaust climbing to 6000 rpm (according to the iStat Pro widget). It took longer than I thought, it was 5-7 minutes for the encode. Then again, the MBA wasn’t designed for video encoding or massive video editing. That’s the MBP/Mac Pro’s job. I did a multi-program test, where I opened every program as fast as I could, and the MBA performed well in that respect. So far the test results have been acceptable and I am pleased. I dare not install any games on the MBA yet. The 80 GB’s are precious to me. Overall, the MBA has OK performance, and is a great notebook for school/general use.

Optical drive. In my opinion, its fine. I don’t use my optical drive at all in my MBP, and if I need to do any disc burning or reading, I just use my Mac Pro or the external Sony drive. Movies and music along with how many other media are being transported from the physical disc to digital download. Installing apps can be used with remote disc or another external drive. I don’t see a real need with a optical drive.

Removeable battery. Well, I never remove/replace my laptop battery on flights or long trips because I don’t use my laptop that long. I sleep on long journey’s. And if I need to, I watch movies on my iPod thanks to handbrake. Although I think a removable battery should be a BTO option. This is similar with the iPhone, people were outraged without a removable battery, although there is no practical use. No one I know, replaces the battery on their cell phone. With the MBA, it should be an option, although it is not necessary.

Memory. Its ENOUGH. No one needs 4 GB’s unless you do movie editing and gaming, and I don’t even have 4 GB on my MBP and I do massive video editing along with some gaming and I think its enough. Not an issue.

Ports. This is Apple’s biggest flaw. 1 USB port? Is it April fools day or something? 1? ONE? The MBA should have 2 USB and 1 Firewire 800 port. That’s ridiculous, seeing as the MBA doesn’t have a memory card reader built in.

Battery life. I think the battery life is good. Its not great, but it gets me through the day with 35 percent left over. I expected more seeing as this is a low power consumption notebook, but I hope they will fix that in the second revision.

Owning a MBP, I know how hot Apple products can get and how irritating and in some cases painful when using it on the lap, but that is not true for the MBA. In fact, the temperatures were comfortable. On my lap (internet surfing, and word processing), the MBA was comfortably warm. When downloading movie files and video exporting however, the MBA gets just below the uncomfortable level of heat. So I am pleased with the temperature management in the MBA. It’s a nice cool, (in both ways), laptop which might be pricey, but a great value in its class.

The keyboard on the MBA is solid. Seriously. It is great. Its not flimsy at all. I love typing on the keyboard, although the backlighting system is faulty and easily tricked.

All in all, I love the MBA and I think it deserves 7.5/10. Improvements need to be made, although the initial product serves well. I am eager to see the second revision of the MBA.

That's my opinion, what's yours? Actually, it did work, for the first day, then something happened to the hub, and the system would not power on. Naturally, I thought it was the transformer that was broken, so Ooma gave me another one without fuss. It still didn't work. So now, I will be sending the hub back in exchange for a new one.
Hopefully it will work this time around!

If you have any tech questions just message my youtube account, or better yet, post a question, and I will respond as quickly as I can.

kp

UPDATE: An Ooma representitave, saw my blog, and told me to contact him @ customer service, so I did, and no less then ten minutes, (after messing around with the hub), he told me that I would get a new hub free of charge. You know, this is what customer service should be like. Ooma asked me a couple of questions about my broken hub, and they also asked for me to try unplugging certain cable combinations. Thats it. The new hub will be coming to my house on Monday. Every company SHOULD have customer service like Applecare/Ooma.

For the first time, I was happy returning a product.

MacBook vs. MacBook Pro

I have recently uploaded a video on youtube stating the issue about MacBook vs. MacBook Pro. Here is a review/comparison of both computers:
MacBook- This computer was designed for the education target market and the casual target market. This computer suggest such a profile because of the sleek plastic molding on both models. While the processors may not be the fastest in the world, I think they are more than enough to run the every day applications such as the Microsoft Office suite, web browsing, and some basic games. Whilst the RAM upgrading may not be the most convenient (only can be upgraded to 2GB) the computer has modest performance and should not be swept aside. One of the characteristics I greatly dislike on the MacBook's is the lack of ability to choose what kind of screen, one would want. Apple only allows the glossy screens to be on the MacBook, no option of matte or glossy. I my opinion, people should be allowed choice of which they want, and I think it is mainly this feature, why people would prefer the low end MacBook Pro. The glossy screen gets annoying at times, and has a lot of glare, especially in heavy lighting conditions. Another last feature I would like to brush up upon would be the keyboard. I would say this is the result of superb innovations from apple. The keyboard is great (except for people with really fat fingers) because all of the keys have great depression, the keys are evenly spaced out, and it looks nice.
MacBook Pro-I own a MacBook Pro (15 inch, 2.4 GHz, matte, 2 GB Ram, 256 mb Nvidia 8600 M GT). Personally I think that it is the best laptop I have ever owned but there are a couple of flaws, which prevents the MBP from earning the title 'bitch-cakes'. The pros of the MBP is that the processor is astounting for a laptop, the memory expansion is massive, the desgin is perfect, the keyboard is excellent and also the backlight feature is brilliant. The flaws are: HOT HOT HOT. Also there have been more defects in the factory than any other apple laptop. And it is really easy to scratch. Other than that the laptop is superb.
Comparison: MacBook is a basic laptop which is suited for most people's needs. MacBook Pro is for people who want to do massive HD video editing, or just graphic design in general, and also if you want to game as well on your apple with bootcamp, you can do that as well.
IF you have any MORE QUESTIONS post on my blog.
